VIDEO FOOTAGE FROM WORKSHOP
14 participants had black thread leading from their wrists to a carrot. The carrot dangled in mid air. Later we cut the carrot into 14 pieces and ATE IT! The NASA Space Voyager recording of the actual sounds of the rings of Saturn playing in the background. We consulted THE BOOK OF SYMBOLS as divination. Everyone counted from 1 to 9 out loud, the book was opened and closed with each count. The page we landed on was PHALLUS. We also reviewed the top 5 regrets of the dying. We ate food, drank wine, CELEBRATED our lives together on this beautiful day in Philadelphia!

A (Soma)tic Poetry Workshop with the poet CAConrad will take place on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Cabin, 801 S Capitol Blvd in Boise.

A $20 donation is suggested for admission. Refreshments will be served.

The Cabin incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1995 as The Log Cabin Literary Center. Its mission is to inspire and celebrate a love of reading, writing and discourse throughout Idaho and the region.

GHOSTS & PROJECTORS is a poetry reading series curated by poet Megan Williams that brings together the page, slam, experimental, lyrical, cowboy, etc poets that all live in Idaho yet never seem to be invited to the same readings, connects community-based audiences with a broad range of established and local poets, and connects local and non-local poets by giving them the opportunity to share the stage.

GHOSTS & PROJECTORS is made possible by generous funding from the Boise City Department of Arts & History and Boise State University’s Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program.

Soma (spirit) and somatic (flesh) come together in unexpected ways for poetry when investigating busy streets, stores, sidewalks. Chinatown has such alchemy every single day awaiting our discovery.

As Alice Notley says, "Poetry's so common hardly anyone can find it." (Soma)tic poetry exercises build on this very notion, giving any square inch its opportunity to release the poem. We will examine faces, doorways, restaurant menus, gift shops, trees, weeds between cracks, we will ABSORB Chinatown, translate Chinatown into poems.

We will meet at 1pm, and work into 5pm, maybe longer. Please bring plenty of water, pens and notepads, as we work hard taking notes to create the poems.

In honor of July 11th being the anniversary for the founding of AIM, we will meet between 12:30pm and 1pm around the Chief Tammany statue at Front & Market Streets.

At 1pm we will begin an exciting day of exploring historical Philadelphia to mine poems through various (Soma)tic poetry exercises. Each of us has OUR OWN America, which we will examine with our bodies, the buildings, cracked bells, trees, grass, birds and THE DIRT of Philadelphia.

We will go into the early evening together, taking time between exercises to discuss each step into the (Soma)tic wilds of our poems. Bring plenty of water, bring notepads and pens. We will also take a 30 minute Silent Meeting where we sit together without talking. There is a very special place where we will be taking our Silent Meeting.
